HISTORY

Assenza is one of 24 small villages forming part of the municipality of Brenzone along the beautiful shores of the lake on the slopes of Mount Baldo.

They are all small hamlets and districts on a 'human scale'.

Absent is the Church of San Nicola, which was built around the 11th-12th centuries. This sanctuary preserves an interesting brass crucifix on the high altar and wonderful 15th century frescoes.

There is also the villa that was owned by Giovanni Spolverini, captain of the Malcesine lake.

Its history is associated with Brenzone, a relatively 'young' municipality born in the mid-20th century.

The development of this area was slower due to the morphology of the land due to steep and impervious slopes and few narrow paths that limited communication routes.

The earliest documents proving its identity date back to the 12th century when municipalities developed and historical and powerful families such as the Rangoni family were born.

During the medieval period it came under various dominations such as the Scaligeri, Visconti, Carraresi and Venetians.
