Lugana DOC is one of the great Italian white wines, capable of satisfying all tastes with its different versions, still, sparkling and even Vendemmia Tardiva. It knows how to be cheerful, light, sparkling but also a structured and profound wine to be kept in the cellar and enjoyed after a few years, to grasp the nuances of an evolution that only wines of great character can offer.
The reference appellation for these wines is Lugana DOC, located between Veneto and Lombardy. The area covers the southern coast of Lake Garda, between the provinces of Verona and Brescia: Lugana is in fact a hamlet of the municipality of Sirmione (BS).
The reference grape variety is Trebbiano di Soave, a very versatile vine with a good predisposition to ageing and suitable for the production of both dry wines and passito and spumante wines.
Lugana is a delicate wine with fruity aromas, good body, fresh and pleasantly savoury on the palate.
It has a brilliant colour that takes on vivid golden notes over time; great freshness, structure and variety of aromas, which can range from white flowers, citrus fruits and herbs, fleshy, juicy and sweet apples, to complex sensations of flint, hazelnuts and almonds.
Lugana DOC offers a basic type, a Riserva, a Late Harvest and a Spumante, with which a complete range of pairings can be covered, from starters to fish or vegetable-based first courses, to white meats including roast meats, to young or medium-aged cheeses. The late harvest is suited to accompany small pastries or blue cheeses.
